Do you a have a printed document and need to make a digital copy of it? Scanning is a quick option. Or an even quicker one is photographing it with your smartphone. In both cases, what you will get is an image of the text, most likely saved under a raster format, such as PNG, JPEG or TIFF. In fact, the latter is often preferred by scanning and faxing devices due to its good quality rendering of text.

But while being an accessible and flexible format, supporting both lossy and lossless compression, TIFF has one major disadvantage. Texts scanned under this format cannot be edited or searched. This might be a problem if, for example, you have a scanned book and need to look for a certain keyword. Or if you want to translate the scanned document via machine translation. The best solution in such cases is converting to a format that can be edited and searched — PDF.

reaConverter’s latest edition features optical character recognition (OCR) as part of the conversion process, allowing you to convert scanned TIFF images with text into searchable and editable PDFs. OCR is an advanced technology by which the software imitates how the human eye and brain work, recognizing certain patterns and characteristics in the input text and turning it into a searchable and editable digital copy. The feature is not limited to text, but also extends to recognizing formatting (columns, numbers, paragraphs etc.) and non-textual data, offering an accurate rendering of the input TIFF in the output PDF.

Load scanned images

Add one or more scanned TIFF images with text. Use the drag-and-drop tool, add entire folders or use the Advanced file select option, which allows you to automatically load files of a certain size and extension from a certain location.

Create searchable PDF in required language

Go to the Menu button and then to Saving settings → Format saving settings → PDF

Tick the box at the bottom of the window: Create searchable PDF in language. reaConverter lets you choose between 6 different language to perfect this feature.

Save the result

In the Saving options section, decide where you will save the output images — in a customized location, in the source folder or a subfolder. Finally, don’t forget to click the PDF button from the Convert to area, at the bottom of the reaConverter window.

If you place the pointer on this button and then on the Settings icon that appears in its upper left corner, you’ll get a shortcut to the Format saving settings window described in the previous step of this tutorial. Use it in case you want to customize your conversion using any of the available options, for example PDF security settings.

Then simply press Start!

Command-line Interface and Watch Folders

Batch image conversion into searchable and editable PDF can also be done via command-line or Watch Folders. In case you are a developer and want to include it in a custom software solution, reaConverter provides detailed steps of how this is done and a full list of configuration parameters here.

The FAX format is also referred to as CCITT Group 3 or Group 4 compression and many people opt for it either when they plan to prepare an image file for being sent by fax, or when they simply want to save space by converting to a bitonal format. CCITT is an abbreviation coming from the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultive Committee — the organization responsible for establishing several transmission protocols, including Group 3 and Group 4 which apply to black-and-white images. Among the image extensions which support the CCITT Group 3 and Group protocols, TIFF is one of the most popular.

Irrespective of the image file format you plan to convert into TIFF with CCITT Group 3 or 4 compression, reaConverter will take care of the job fast and easy.

All you need to do is follow the 3 steps of the conversion process:

Load Files

Load all the image files you need to convert. From JPEG to PDF, BMP or PNG, this powerful converter covers over 600 image formats, including archaic and rare. Moreover, it helps you save a lot of time by supporting batch conversion, which means you can safely avoid doing the same operation over and over again when you have a large number of images to convert.

TIFF Settings

Go to the Menu → Options Saving settings → Format saving settings…

Then move to the TIF tab and choose the type of compression which best fits your needs (see options in the screencap below).

Image Editing

In this second step of the conversion you can also opt for several image editing features, such as resizing or mirroring the image, cropping or rotating it, adding a text or an image as watermarks, etc.

Save your Result

Go to the Saving options step of the conversion process and choose TIF as the output format of your images.

Here you can also opt for automatically modifying the name of the output files. For example, you can add “BW” (from black-and-white) as a suffix or prefix to the output filename, or you can opt for registering the date and time as part of the name of the converted file. This will make it easier to track the converted files. You can also opt here for overwriting the input file and for setting the destination folder as being the same as the source folder.

After checking all these options (and several others available), simply start the conversion.
You will soon be able to make full use of your newly converted images!

Professional photographers or image editors often have mixed feelings about the use of JPG. On the one hand, they like this format because it doesn’t take too much space, it is easily compatible with any image viewer you can think of, on any type of device (including smartphones, tablets etc.), and it is the default format used by all image sharing websites, from Google to Facebook.

On the other hand, the image quality of JPGs is not exactly the best you can get. To put it simply, JPG is a lossy compression format. This means that having a small size comes with the downside of discarding some of encoding information that ensures an optimal image quality. If you plan to use a photo only on the web, JPG will probably be just fine. But if you plan to print it or add graphics editing, you will need to convert it to a different format.

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a good option because it can ensure a lossless compression of the image, which translates into better quality. Though TIFFs tend to have a larger size, they also offer a much more detailed rendering of the image, storing it with more accuracy than the JPG format. And this means the image will look better in print and it will also be more suitable for advanced graphics editing.

Converting a JPG into a lossless TIFF can be as easy as 1-2-3 when you use a quality piece of software as reaConverter.

Here are below the quick steps you need to take:

Load JPEG Files

Select all the images you intend to convert and get them ready for batch conversion by adding them to the file list. As opposed to other free online converters, reaConverter not only offers you advanced settings and options, but also the possibility to convert all the files you need at once.

JPEG and TIFF are two of the most popular extensions used for storing image files. But which one is better? It depends. Though they apparently have a similar function, the two differ on several aspects, such as size and image quality.

JPEG or JPG is the format typically used by most non-professional digital cameras to shoot photographs. So it is definitely the most wide-spread extension you will find photos in.

The advantages of JPEGs are size — which tends to be small, and transferability — which means you can easily store and e-mail such files. Also, most browsers do not require special applications or plug-ins for viewing JPEGs, and this format is compatible with all photo sharing websites. Hence, if you are interested more in easily uploading your files on Internet and care about how much space they take on your computer, than JPEG is what you need.

If, on the other hand, you care more about the quality of your image, especially in case you plan to print it, you might prefer the TIFF format. While JPEGs provide a “lossy” compression of the image, which translates in a lower image quality, TIFFs (Tagged Image File Format) can ensure a “lossless” compression, or in other words reproduce the photographed/scanned image with more accuracy. This means that TIFFs tend to be larger in size, but will also look a lot better when printed than JPEGs.

Another important difference between TIFFs and JPEGs is that the former support a multi-page format, whereas the latter does not. So, if you happen to have a multi-page TIFF that you want to convert to multiple JPEG files, here is the fast and easy way to do it:

Download reaConverter Lite

Download and install reaConverter Lite, a quality piece of software that supports conversions from TIF to JPG in batch mode. You will notice it does not take too much space on your computer, it has a user-friendly interface and is available for free.

Install reaConverter Lite

Load Multipage TIFF Images

Load all the TIFF files you need to convert. As opposed to most free online converters, reaConverter supports batch conversion, which means you will not have to do the same operations over and over again, thus saving time and energy.

Use Multipage Settings

Select multi-page loading options from Menu → Loading settings, if you want to convert all the pages from the multipage TIFF, or just some of them.

You can also select additional multi-page saving settings from Menu → Saving settings → Additional saving settings → Multipage.

Apply Image Editing

Optionally, you can select editing actions you want to apply to your images from Edit images tab. Resizing, rotating, cropping and watermarking are just some of the available options. All editing will be applied to every TIFF page you convert.

Save the Result

Go to Saving options tab to select the destination folder and the JPG as output format of the converted files.

Then Start the conversion and enjoy your new separate JPEG images!

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is an extension often used for saving good quality images, as its ability to offer “lossless” compression ensures a detailed and accurate look. TIFF is also a popular option for users who want to save multiple images into a single file.

Creating multi-page TIFF is now easier than ever with reaConverter’s latest edition, requiring only a few clicks.

How to create multipage TIFF?

To begin, install reaConverter from reaconverter.com and then follow the 3 simple steps. Lite edition is free and can handle multi-page TIF creation.

Install reaConverter

Load images into reaConverter

Load all the images you intend to include in the multi-page TIFF file. They can have the .tif extension as well, or any of the other 546 formats supported by reaConverter.

For example, you can have one PNG and 2 JPG files here.

Set up multi-page settings

Click the Menu button and go to Saving settings → Additional saving settings and then to the Multipage tab.

Here tick the following option: Save all processed files to one file.

Save the result

Next, pick TIF as the extension for the output file, from the buttons conveniently placed in the lower part of the window. Then go to Saving settings and choose a location for your new multi-page TIFF. You can save it offline, in a local folder of your choice, or online, using Dropbox, Box.com, OneDrive or Google Drive.

Finally, simply press the Start button and your new multi-page TIFF file will be done in a few seconds!

Try reaConverter

Nikon is one of the most popular brands of digital cameras, widely favored both by professional and amateur photographers. But if you are the fresh owner of a Nikon camera and you have just downloaded the first series of photographs taken with it, you might be puzzled by the extension of the image files stocked on your computer.

NEF is the trademarked extension of RAW photos taken with Nikon cameras. Many photographers prefer to take RAW photos (also called “digital negatives”), instead of the usual JPEG, because they contain minimally processed data and they can easily be customized using digital editing software. However, their size tends to be very large and they are not supported by regular image viewers. Plus, handling them requires the use of advanced digital editing programs, which are not particularly easy to use. Moreover, sending or uploading RAW images to photo sharing sites is impossible if you don’t convert them to a more accessible format.

Instead of converting RAW images to JPEG, which usually implies some severe compromise in terms of image quality, a more viable option is converting to TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), because the latter can ensure a lossless compression of the image file.

So, if you are fan of shooting in RAW mode with your Nikon camera, but at the same time want to avoid the costs and the hassle of buying and operating an advanced image editing software, we recommend an easier and faster way to handle your NEF images. Here is what you need to do:

Pick a powerful converter, which will not only allow you to change the extension of the image file, but will also offer you a large variety of image editing options. reaConverter might be one of the best options, since it supports batch conversion for over 500 image formats, including NEF. Moreover, it has a free trial period and once you install it you will discover it does not take too much space on your computer and has a user-friendly interface.

Do you have a TIF file which includes several pages and you would like to convert it into a PDF with the same multipage structure? Or perhaps you would like each page to be transformed into a separate PDF? In each of these cases, reaConverter is the tool which will help you manage your conversions fast and easy.

Here is how:

Install reaConverter

Firstly, go to www.reaconverter.com, download and install reaConverter, and take full advantage of its 15-day free trial period. This quality piece of software is small and it installs quickly on your computer, without occupying too much space or taking too many resources. Moreover, it has a user-friendly menu and you will figure out how to use it in no time.

Open TIF files in reaConverter

Start reaConverter and load one or all the multipage TIF files you plan to convert. Unlike most other free converters available online, reaConverter supports batch conversion. This will help you avoid the hassle of repeating the same operation for every single file you plan to convert. Instead, you can process them all at once. reaConverter supports over 500 image file formats, including TIF.

The Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) is generally preferred by photographers or advanced image editors for storing photographs or scanned images. In comparison with other popular formats, such as JPEG, TIF files can ensure a “lossless compression” of the image, which means they preserve image details with greater accuracy. Moreover, they can be easily edited using graphics design programs.

As opposed to TIF, which is a raster format, PDF contains both vector and raster information. Consequently, it looks better when printed. Also, PDFs are easier to embed in a web-page and can even be read in a web browser, whereas TIFs are supported neither by most browsers nor by image sharing sites. Finally, PDF files are typically smaller in size then TIFs. If, for any of these reasons, you plan to transform one or more TIF files into one or more PDFs, here is how to go about it.

Set-up multipage to multipage conversion option

Once you’ve loaded your TIF files with reaConverter, you just have to click Menu → Saving Settings → Additional Saving Settings… and then go to the Multipage menu in order to decide what to do with your files.

The options include saving every page of your TIF as a separate PDF file, converting your multipage TIF into a single multipage PDF, and others. Click on the most suitable option for your needs and then go to the final step of the conversion process, where you choose the destination folder and the output format you want. If you must stick to a multipage format, PDF is the best option. If not, many others are also available, including JPEG, BMP or PNG.

Convert your images

Go to the Saving options and pick a destination for your output PDF files.
reaConverter offers several options for saving them locally.

Finally, choose PDF as output format. Simply press one of the buttons on the bottom of the window, or click the + Plus button if you don’t see PDF button there.

After all this is set, just press the Start button and your files will be transformed almost instantly!

 Download reaConverter

Advanced users can convert multipage TIFF images to PDF via command line interface or DLL in manual, automated or scheduled mode.

If you are a fan of Canon cameras, you probably have a bunch of CR2 images stocked on your computer. CR2 is the proprietary format of Canon cameras, used for creating RAW images. Or in other words, images that you can later edit using advanced graphics editing software. While this format might be OK to use if you are a professional designer and if you have Adobe Photoshop or other similar programs installed on your computer, transfer CR2 images, sending or posting them online might pose some problems.

As in the case of most RAW image files, CR2s tend to have a very large size, so storing them or sending them by e-mail can be difficult. In addition, they are not compatible with many regular image viewing aditing programs and they are not accepted by photo labs or image sharing websites. So, how to deal with them in this case?

The best solution for handling your CR2 images is converting them to a more popular image format, which takes less space and is supported by more image viewers. You can choose from several extensions, including JPG or TIF. But while converting CR2 to JPG usually implies some serious compromise in terms of image quality, when it comes to the TIF format, preserving image quality is no longer an issue.

As opposed to JPG, which is a lossy compression format, TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) can ensure a lossless compression of the image. Or in other words, it helps you maintain image quality when you switch from CR2. However, for this conversion to take place successfully, you need to use a powerful piece of software, with advanced conversion settings. We recommend ReaConverter, which supports conversions to and from over 400 image formats, including CR2.

All you need to do is:

Download and Install reaConverter

Go to the reaConverter’s website reaConverter.com, download and install the software to your PC.

Load Your CR2 Files

Start it and load all the image files you need to convert because, as opposed to most free online converters, reaConverter supports batch conversion. So you can save the time and energy you would lose with doing repetitive operations.

Edit CR2 photos

You can tune CR2 loading settings with RAW Formats Loading Settings option.

Adjust white balance, brightness and interpolation, or apply denoise filter and color correction.

reaConverter also lets you choose between a wide array of image editing options. Here you can opt for rotating or cropping your images, for adding filters, effects or watermarking. You can easily check the effect of the image options you select here by ticking the Preview button.

Save in TIFF

Go to Saving options and pick a location for your TIF images. Pick the TIF extension for your output files by clicking the corresponding button from the lower part of the window.

Consequently, click on the TIF format settings button and go to the TIF menu in the newly opened window. Then select No compression in order to have a lossless conversion from CR2 to TIF.

After completing this step, simply start the conversion and in a few moments you will be able to enjoy your newly converted TIFF image files!

 Download reaConverter

Video Tutorial

Online CR2 Converter:

reaConverter is a highly efficient tool for managing a large amount of CR2 files on a frequent basis. However, if you are planning to convert only a few CR2 photos and only once in a while, then you can also try online RAW photo converter imverter.com.

Advanced users can convert CR2 photos to TIFF files into images via command line interface in manual, automated or scheduled mode.
In addition to supporting conversion to and from almost any image format you can think of, reaConverter also allows you to handle the most popular MS Word document files. Using this powerful software, you can now convert DOC, DOCX and RTF files to almost any available image format, including PDF.

Microsoft Word is one of the most widely used programs for creating document files. It was released in the 1980s and has undergone a great number of subsequent upgrades. The native file formats for Word are DOC and DOCX — the former was part of the Word editions released until 2007, while the latter was included in those released afterwards. Microsoft Word’s formats are compatible with both Windows and Mac platforms, and are also supported by some non-Microsoft applications, such as the popular open source processing program Open Office Writer.

Apart from DOC and DOCX, reaConverter also supports RTF (Rich Text Format) – a Microsoft Word format whose aim is to retain the format features and content of the original document, irrespective of the application with which the document is opened or edited later on. This helps avoid the slight changes that might appear when using Word 2013 for Windows to open a DOC file created with Word 95, for example.

reaConverter supports conversion from DOC, DOCX and RTF to over 50 formats, including PDF and several popular image formats such as JPG, PNG, BMP, or TIF — as well as other less known or rarely used extensions.

Here is how it works

Download and install reaConverter. Load one or more document files into reaConverter, by using the handy drag-and-drop tool or by selecting them manually from your hard drive.

reaConverter allows you to customize the loading quality by accessing the Menu button, and then Loading settings → Vector formats loading settings. Here you can enter a particular figure to define how the vector image should be resized.

In the Edit images section you can pick one or more editing features that will be included in the conversion process. You can select to rotate, resize, crop or watermark your files, among others.

Finally, go to Saving options and pick the location for your output files. They can be saved online of offline, in a storage cloud or in a local folder of your choice. Last but not least, choose the format of the output files by simply pressing one of the buttons placed in the lower part of the window. PDF is among the options, as well as JPG, PNG, TIF, BMP and lots of others.

Next, press the Start button and your newly converted files will soon be ready!

NVA is a new and popular file format used particularly for storing ebooks and associated with a piece of software called NVA Reader. This program is optimized to work on all types of platforms, including Windows, Mac, Nexus phones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, the Samsung Galaxy series etc.

Some of the main advantages of using NVA files are the possibility to select, highlight and underline text, make notes and add bookmarks. NVA files simulate the appearance of the print book really well and they preserve the structure, format and objects on each page. They also include handy search tools and features that facilitate sharing notes or quotes on social networks.

But if you have just downloaded or received by email an NVA file, you might notice it is not compatible with many other programs apart from NVA Reader. In case you want to convert it to a more accessible format, such as PDF, reaConverter can make this happen in a few seconds and without any quality loss. Additionally, reaConverter supports conversion from NVA to raster image formats, such as JPG, PNG or TIFF.

Here is how.

Download and install reaConverter. Start it and load your NVA files into main window. This powerful batch converter features a useful drag-and-drop tool, as well as the possibility to select files manually or add entire folders.

Go to the Edit images tab in case you want to resize, crop, rotate, watermark or add other editing features to your converted NVA files.

Finally, go to Saving options and choose a location for your newly converted ebook files.

Last but not least, pick the format of the output files. reaConverter supports vector to vector conversion from NVA to PDF, which means your ebook will be converted to a more accessible format and preserve its quality. Alternatively, you can convert NVA files to multipage TIFFs or to other popular raster formats, including JPG and PNG.
