PCL (Printer Control Language) is currently considered a standard format for documents that are prepared for printing. Although it was initially designed only for Hewlett-Packard inkjet printers at its release in the 1980s, the PCL format was gradually adopted by other brands as well and nowadays it is compatible with most laser-jet printers.

PCL is a great alternative to PostScript, not only because it is more widely adopted in the industry, but also because it is simpler, faster to operate and cheaper. The PCL format is based on an open language and it is “printer-ready” — it can be operated even from DOS or UNIX. This gives more advantages to PCL than to other similar formats such as PDF or TIFF, making it a reliable and convenient extension for archiving printable documents.

reaConverter’s latest edition supports conversion of multipage PCL files to lots of other formats, offering a number of additional features during the process. For example, you can choose to convert all pages of a file or only a selection of them, you can opt for converting multipage PCLs to another multipage format — such as PDF or TIFF, and you can also decide if you want to convert each page into a separate document or not.

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is an extension often used for saving good quality images, as its ability to offer “lossless” compression ensures a detailed and accurate look. TIFF is also a popular option for users who want to save multiple images into a single file.

Creating multi-page TIFF is now easier than ever with reaConverter’s latest edition, requiring only a few clicks.

How to create multipage TIFF?

To begin, install reaConverter from reaconverter.com and then follow the 3 simple steps. Lite edition is free and can handle multi-page TIF creation.

Install reaConverter

Load images into reaConverter

Load all the images you intend to include in the multi-page TIFF file. They can have the .tif extension as well, or any of the other 546 formats supported by reaConverter.

For example, you can have one PNG and 2 JPG files here.

Set up multi-page settings

Click the Menu button and go to Saving settings → Additional saving settings and then to the Multipage tab.

Save the result

Next, pick TIF as the extension for the output file, from the buttons conveniently placed in the lower part of the window. Then go to Saving settings and choose a location for your new multi-page TIFF. You can save it offline, in a local folder of your choice, or online, using Dropbox, Box.com, OneDrive or Google Drive.

Open TIF files in reaConverter

Start reaConverter and load one or all the multipage TIF files you plan to convert. Unlike most other free converters available online, reaConverter supports batch conversion. This will help you avoid the hassle of repeating the same operation for every single file you plan to convert. Instead, you can process them all at once. reaConverter supports over 500 image file formats, including TIF.

The Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) is generally preferred by photographers or advanced image editors for storing photographs or scanned images. In comparison with other popular formats, such as JPEG, TIF files can ensure a “lossless compression” of the image, which means they preserve image details with greater accuracy. Moreover, they can be easily edited using graphics design programs.

As opposed to TIF, which is a raster format, PDF contains both vector and raster information. Consequently, it looks better when printed. Also, PDFs are easier to embed in a web-page and can even be read in a web browser, whereas TIFs are supported neither by most browsers nor by image sharing sites. Finally, PDF files are typically smaller in size then TIFs. If, for any of these reasons, you plan to transform one or more TIF files into one or more PDFs, here is how to go about it.

Set-up multipage to multipage conversion option

Once you’ve loaded your TIF files with reaConverter, you just have to click Menu → Saving Settings → Additional Saving Settings… and then go to the Multipage menu in order to decide what to do with your files.

The options include saving every page of your TIF as a separate PDF file, converting your multipage TIF into a single multipage PDF, and others. Click on the most suitable option for your needs and then go to the final step of the conversion process, where you choose the destination folder and the output format you want. If you must stick to a multipage format, PDF is the best option. If not, many others are also available, including JPEG, BMP or PNG.

Convert your images

Go to the Saving options and pick a destination for your output PDF files.
reaConverter offers several options for saving them locally.

Finally, choose PDF as output format. Simply press one of the buttons on the bottom of the window, or click the + Plus button if you don’t see PDF button there.

After all this is set, just press the Start button and your files will be transformed almost instantly!

When dealing with a large number of documents, many people find it easier to merge them all together in a single multipage file. This is not necessarily related to saving space, because you don’t save much when creating a multipage file, but rather to ease of access.

Opening or uploading one file that contains all the documents you want to read requires a lot less effort than opening a multitude of separate files. And this applies to images as well. Not only in the case where a multipage document is required by default, such as when you build a portfolio, for example, but also when you want to transfer, upload online or send by email a group of images, and you want to make things easier.

Two of the most widely-used formats that support multipage image files are TIFF and PDF. TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is preferred by many for storing raster images and preparing them for print, and that is because it can ensure a “lossless” compression, thus providing better image quality. PDF (Portable Document File) can sometimes offer a smaller document size for the same content as a TIFF file and is seen by many as the perfect way to save vector images.

In case you have a group of images saved into a single multipage file, whether it is a TIFF or a PDF, and you only want to convert one image from the group into another format, reaConverter will help you do the job quick and without too much effort. If, for example, you want to post only one or a few selected images from a multipage image file on a photo sharing website, you will probably want to convert it/them into JPEG, which is the most popular format for storing low-size and decent quality images. With reaConverter you can easily select only the pages that you want to convert and handle them separately.

Here is how it works:

Load the Multipage File

Load the multipage TIFFs or PDFs that contain the images you need to convert. You can add them all at once to the conversion list, since reaConverter supports batch conversion, thus helping you save a lot of time and avoid doing the same operations over and over again.

Tune Multipage Loading Settings

Go to the Menu → Loading settings → Multipage loading settings. Tick the option that says Convert the following page numbers, and insert the numbers you are interested in converting.

Apply Image Editing

You can also select from a large variety of editing actions you want to apply to your images. Mirroring, rotating, adding image effects and watermarking are just some of the available options.

Save the Result

Finally, select the destination folder and the output format of the converted files. JPEG is one popular option, but many others are also available, including PNG, BMP or GIF. Then simply start the conversion and you will soon be able to use your selected images separately, in the format of your choice.

 Download and try reaConverter Pro

Advanced users can extract pages from multipage images using command line converter in manual, automated or scheduled mode. You are welcome to contact our technical support when you have any questions about reaConverter.
