PSD is a popular format for storing multi-layered images created or edited using Photoshop software. The main advantage of using the PSD extension is that images remain easily editable, as their layered structure allows users to add or change various elements and features, including image effects, transparencies, color adjustments and many more.

To increase accessibility and ease of transfer, PSD files are usually converted to more widely used raster formats, such as JPEG or PNG. This type of conversion, though, implies flattening the image, which means no major editing is possible afterwards. And this might pose problems at times.

The hassle of realizing you still need to make corrections to a PSD image that has already been flattened can be easily avoided by converting to SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) in the first place. This extension allows you to preserve the image layers and defines the graphics in XML format. SVG also supports animation and lets you index, search or compress the image.

Add PSD Files

Load all the PSD files you intend to convert. Add them one by one, select groups of them or add entire folders using the drag-and-drop feature. You can also automatically select only the files that have the PSD extension from a folder that includes other formats as well, by clicking Advance file select.

Load PSD as Separated Layers

Go to the Menu button and click Loading settings → PSD loading settings

In the new window tick the box that says Load PSD as separated layers

Create layered SVG

Go back to the Menu button and click Saving settings → Format saving settings

Then go to the SVG tab and click Create raster SVG in order to obtain a layered output image. Here you can also customize the quality of the resulting image by entering the desired percentage in the designated box.

Edit Images

Optionally, go to the Edit images tab and pick one of the many options available, including rotating, watermarking or cropping the image.

Here you can also see a real time preview of how the output image will look like.

Apply Processing

Finally, pick the location of the converted files by clicking the Saving options tab.
You can choose to save them offline, in the source folder, a subfolder or in another customized location.
Last but not least, don’t forget to pick SVG as the output format by clicking the appropriate button from the bottom of reaConverter’s main window.

Then simply press Start and your newly converted SVGs will soon be ready!

DWG is a proprietary format of AutoCAD — probably the most popular software for drafting 2D and 3D models in the construction industry. Widely used by engineers, architects, designers and other professionals in this branch, the DWG extension is also compatible with several other computer-aided design programs, including IntelliCAD or Caddie.

Most CAD programs offer users 2 types of drafting environments. One is “model space”, where a draft model is initially sketched according to a defined representation scale, and the other is “paper space”, to which users can switch to when preparing a model for printing. The latter allows you to create several layouts, offering different views of the model. Multipage DWG files can contain both “model” pages and “paper” pages.

Load DWG Images

Select all the multipage DWG or DXF vector files you intend to convert and drop them into the reaConverter window. You can also use the Add files button and opt for the Advanced file select option, which allows you to pick a particular type of extension only, from a source folder containing several others.

Loading Settings

Go to the Menu button and click Loading settings → Vector formats loading settings.

Here you can tick one of the available options for the multipage DWG or DXF output layout. reaConverter allows you to process all pages (all layouts), only “model” pages (model space) or only “paper” pages (all paper spaces).

Multipage Saving Settings

Go to the Menu button, click Saving settings → Multipage files…

Click Convert each multipage file to another if you want to create a multipage PDFs.

Choose PDF as Output Format

In the Saving options tab, decide where you will store the resulting images. You can use one of the available destination options — source folder, subfolders, a customized folder.

Finally, pick PDF as an output extension from the buttons placed in the lower part of the window.

PDF Settings

You can also set PDF specific settings from Menu → Saving settings → Format saving settings menu. PDF Security Settings section allows you to enter a password for opening the output PDF files and one for allowing various actions applied to it — printing, editing or copying. When you’re done, don’t forget to click OK to save your options.

Start Conversion

Then simply press Start, sit back and wait for your new multipage PDFs to be ready!

JPEG and TIFF are two of the most popular extensions used for storing image files. But which one is better? It depends. Though they apparently have a similar function, the two differ on several aspects, such as size and image quality.

JPEG or JPG is the format typically used by most non-professional digital cameras to shoot photographs. So it is definitely the most wide-spread extension you will find photos in.

The advantages of JPEGs are size — which tends to be small, and transferability — which means you can easily store and e-mail such files. Also, most browsers do not require special applications or plug-ins for viewing JPEGs, and this format is compatible with all photo sharing websites. Hence, if you are interested more in easily uploading your files on Internet and care about how much space they take on your computer, than JPEG is what you need.

If, on the other hand, you care more about the quality of your image, especially in case you plan to print it, you might prefer the TIFF format. While JPEGs provide a “lossy” compression of the image, which translates in a lower image quality, TIFFs (Tagged Image File Format) can ensure a “lossless” compression, or in other words reproduce the photographed/scanned image with more accuracy. This means that TIFFs tend to be larger in size, but will also look a lot better when printed than JPEGs.

Another important difference between TIFFs and JPEGs is that the former support a multi-page format, whereas the latter does not. So, if you happen to have a multi-page TIFF that you want to convert to multiple JPEG files, here is the fast and easy way to do it:
