Professional photographers or image editors often have mixed feelings about the use of JPG. On the one hand, they like this format because it doesn’t take too much space, it is easily compatible with any image viewer you can think of, on any type of device (including smartphones, tablets etc.), and it is the default format used by all image sharing websites, from Google to Facebook.

On the other hand, the image quality of JPGs is not exactly the best you can get. To put it simply, JPG is a lossy compression format. This means that having a small size comes with the downside of discarding some of encoding information that ensures an optimal image quality. If you plan to use a photo only on the web, JPG will probably be just fine. But if you plan to print it or add graphics editing, you will need to convert it to a different format.

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a good option because it can ensure a lossless compression of the image, which translates into better quality. Though TIFFs tend to have a larger size, they also offer a much more detailed rendering of the image, storing it with more accuracy than the JPG format. And this means the image will look better in print and it will also be more suitable for advanced graphics editing.

Converting a JPG into a lossless TIFF can be as easy as 1-2-3 when you use a quality piece of software as reaConverter.

Install reaConverter

Here are below the quick steps you need to take:

Load JPEG Files

Select all the images you intend to convert and get them ready for batch conversion by adding them to the file list. As opposed to other free online converters, reaConverter not only offers you advanced settings and options, but also the possibility to convert all the files you need at once.

This powerful converter supports over 550 image formats, including archaic and rare.

Edit Images

Go to the second step of the conversion process and decide how you want to tune up your images. reaConverter offers a comprehensive set of tools to handle the way in which your output image will look like.

You can opt for rotating, resizing and cropping your image, mirroring or changing the canvas size. You can also add a wide array of image effects and filters, or correct color noise and brightness.

Tick the “Preview” box on the lower right side of this window and all the editing will almost instantly become visible, so you can check the results of your settings in real time.

Save to TIFF

In the final step of the conversion process, select the destination folder and TIF as the extension of the output file. If you want to opt for lossless TIF, click the Format settings icon. Here you can apply additional commands regarding the conversion process. Choose No compression in the Compression type section.

Then just click OK and Start the conversion. The newly converted images will be ready fast!

While most people describe SVG as a vector format containing vectors, animations or interactive graphics and supported by the largest part of web browsers, few know that SVGs can also store raster images. And the best part is that these raster images can handle alpha-channel and JPEG compression, which makes SVG a great alternative for the larger-sized PNG.

SVG is also a better alternative than WebP, JPEG2000 or JPEG-XR when it comes to web programming, as it is supported by Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer 9+ and Firefox — thus covering all major browsers.

Here is a simple example:

PNG with Alpha-Channel, 56.6Kb

SVG with JPEG compression and Alpha-Channel, 14.2Kb

The result — image size reduced to about 75%, keeping Alpha Channel.

How to create SVG with JPEG compression?

reaConverter’s latest edition helps you convert from a wide array of image formats into raster JPEG compressed SVG with Alpha-Channel.

Install reaConverter

You can also reach this window directly from the SVG button placed in the lower part of the reaConverter window. Just click the Settings icon placed on the upper left side of the button.

Save the result

Go to the Saving options tab and pick a location for your output files. Save them in the source folder or in another local folder of your choice. Finally, make sure you have picked the output extension SVG from the buttons placed in the lower part of the window. If you don’t see it there, click the Plus button and a new window with all the supported formats will appear.

JPEG and TIFF are two of the most popular extensions used for storing image files. But which one is better? It depends. Though they apparently have a similar function, the two differ on several aspects, such as size and image quality.

JPEG or JPG is the format typically used by most non-professional digital cameras to shoot photographs. So it is definitely the most wide-spread extension you will find photos in.

The advantages of JPEGs are size — which tends to be small, and transferability — which means you can easily store and e-mail such files. Also, most browsers do not require special applications or plug-ins for viewing JPEGs, and this format is compatible with all photo sharing websites. Hence, if you are interested more in easily uploading your files on Internet and care about how much space they take on your computer, than JPEG is what you need.

If, on the other hand, you care more about the quality of your image, especially in case you plan to print it, you might prefer the TIFF format. While JPEGs provide a “lossy” compression of the image, which translates in a lower image quality, TIFFs (Tagged Image File Format) can ensure a “lossless” compression, or in other words reproduce the photographed/scanned image with more accuracy. This means that TIFFs tend to be larger in size, but will also look a lot better when printed than JPEGs.

Another important difference between TIFFs and JPEGs is that the former support a multi-page format, whereas the latter does not. So, if you happen to have a multi-page TIFF that you want to convert to multiple JPEG files, here is the fast and easy way to do it:

Download reaConverter Lite

Download and install reaConverter Lite, a quality piece of software that supports conversions from TIF to JPG in batch mode. You will notice it does not take too much space on your computer, it has a user-friendly interface and is available for free.

The PCL (Printer Command Language) format was initially designed only for Hewlett-Packard inkjet printers in the 1980s, but in time it became a standard applied all over the printing industry. Though similar to PostScript in terms of features, PCL works faster and simpler. It is also less expensive, being an open language used almost universally by laser-jet printers.

reaConverter’s latest edition allows you to convert documents to the HP-PCL format, for both monochrome and color printers, in a matter of seconds. PCL 5/6, PCL 4 and PCL 3 are supported. The batch conversion can be managed manually, by adding all desired documents to reaConverter, or it can be automated — either by using the Watch Folders feature or via command-line. Watch Folders allows you to designate a folder in which all dropped documents are automatically converted to PCL, while command-line lets developers include PCL conversion into their customized software solution.

How to convert into HP PCL via reaConverter?

First of all, download and install reaConverter from reaconverter.com and then follow the simple steps of the conversion process.

Install reaConverter

Load all the documents you intend to convert

Add all the files you intend to convert. Use the drag-and-drop tool or the Add files button to find them. You can convert JPEG, PDF, DOC, DWG documents, and other formats.

Select HP-PCL as the output format

Select PCL as the output format for your files. This can be done by clicking the appropriate button from the ones placed in the lower part of the window.

In case you don’t see PCL there, click the Plus button and pick it from the list of available saving formats.

Customize PCL settings

Customize the output file by following this path: Menu → Saving settings → Format saving settings → PCL. You can get to the same place by clicking the Gear icon placed in the upper left corner of the PCL button from your main window.

Here you can customize the page size used by the output image, the position on the page, and prepare it for color / monochrome printing.

Start PCL conversion

Finally, go to Saving options and pick the location for your output files. You can save them in a local folder of your choice.

Then simply press Start and your new HP-PCL files will soon be ready!

Try reaConverter

JPEG is the most popular format for storing and sharing decent quality images or uploading them online. But in case you want to process a JPG file via a computer-aided design program such as AutoCAD, you will need to vectorize it. Or, in other words, turn it from a raster file made up of pixels — into a vector file made up of points, lines and curves.

Vectorizing a JPG picture into an AutoCAD DXF drawing can be done in no more than a few clicks using reaConverter’s latest edition.

Next, decide where the DXFs will be saved by clicking the Saving settings tab. Pick the format and location of the output files.

In case a DXF button is not among the ones placed at the bottom of reaConverter’s main window, click the Plus button and find it in the list of available formats.

Although PCX files used to be more popular a few years ago, when computer display hardware was still in its early days of development, you still might find yourself having to handle such a file today. Have you received a PCX image file by e-mail? Or discovered one on an old hard-drive? In any case, you will find such files are not supported by all image viewers, so handling them can be quite difficult.

For this reason, we recommend converting your PCX files to a more popular format, such as JPEG. Using JPEG makes things a lot less complicated when you plan to send you images by e-mail, post them on-line or store them without taking too much space on your computer. All you need to do is use a powerful converter, which will quickly allow you to transform all your PCX files into JPEGs.

One of the best options available is reaConverter, which can be downloaded for free at www.reaconverter.com, with a 15-day free trial period. As opposed to other free image converters available online, reaConverter supports batch conversion for over 500 image formats. This means you will save a lot of time, avoid doing the same operations over and over again, and you will also be able to handle almost any conceivable image format. reaConverter installs quickly and is easy to use.

How does it work?

By following these 3 easy steps:

Load any number of PCX files you need to convert and add them to the conversion list.

Make full use of the image editing options supported by this converter. Here you can adjust the brightness and contrast of your photos, add filters or image effects, as well as watermarking. Other useful options include rotating and resizing your images, cropping and repairing the image, removing noise, and many more. After choosing each image editing option you can tune it up and see in real time how the image will look like. All you need to do is tick the Preview box.

Choose the destination of the output file and its format. Pick JPG from the dropdown menu and spend a few more moments exploring other available options before conversion. Here you can opt for overwriting the initial image file or deleting it after conversion. You can also rename the output files by picking a standard format for the modified name.

After completing all these options, start the conversion and quickly enjoy your images in their new and more accessible format.

In case you happened to find yourself having a group of TGA files (perhaps someone sent them by e-mail or transferred them to your computer) and are not sure how to handle them, here are some quick tips.

The TGA (Truevision Graphics Adapter) format was created in the 1980s by a company called Truevision as a raster graphics file format and it is also referred to as ‟TARGA (Truevision Advanced Raster Graphics Adapter) format”. Though the company doesn’t exist anymore under this name, the file is still widely used for storing deep-pixel images and graphics that contain image data up to 32-bits per pixel. You will often find TGA images associated with 3D video games or have them used for still-video editing.

TGA files can be handled using advanced graphics design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw or GIMP. They can also be opened by some photo viewers, such as ACDSee or Apple Quick Time Viewer. However, if you plan to share TGA files online, to transfer, send them by e-mail or make them widely available, the easiest thing to do is convert them to a more accessible format, such as JPEG.

Managing the conversion of a group of files from TGA to JPEG format can be really easy when you are using a proficient converter such as reaConverter. This software can be used for competently reading over 500 image formats and for writing over 50 types of image extensions. In the case of TGA, reaConverter supports conversion both to and from this format.

The batch conversion of your TGA files to JPEG is easy to operate with the software’s user-friendly menu by following these 3 steps:

1. Load TGA Files Into reaConverter

Add all the TGA files you need to convert to the conversion list. By supporting batch conversion, reaConverter helps you save a lot of time and avoid doing recurring operations.

2. Edit TGA Images

Explore the wide array of image editing options made available by this software. Here you can opt for rotating or resizing all converted images, for adding image effects or correcting colors. You can also add an image or text watermark, so as to protect the rights of the image owner. All the options you choose in this section can be tuned up and you can easily see how they will transform your images by ticking the Preview checkbox.

3. Apply the Result

Choose the destination of the output file and its format. In case you have a large number of images you intend to convert and you would like to automatically modify their filename, here you can also opt for adding a predefined prefix or suffix to the new filename. For example, you can use the date or time as predefined elements that help you keep track of your images. After setting all these details, simply start the conversion process and quickly enjoy your images in a new format.

 Download reaConverter

Online TGA Converter:

reaConverter is a highly efficient tool for managing a large amount of TGA images on a frequent basis. However, if you are planning to convert only a few TGA files and only once in a while, then you can try online TGA image converter imverter.com.

Advanced users can convert TGA files via command line interface or DLL in manual, automated or scheduled mode.

In addition to supporting conversion to and from almost any image format you can think of, reaConverter also allows you to handle the most popular MS Word document files. Using this powerful software, you can now convert DOC, DOCX and RTF files to almost any available image format, including PDF.

Microsoft Word is one of the most widely used programs for creating document files. It was released in the 1980s and has undergone a great number of subsequent upgrades. The native file formats for Word are DOC and DOCX — the former was part of the Word editions released until 2007, while the latter was included in those released afterwards. Microsoft Word’s formats are compatible with both Windows and Mac platforms, and are also supported by some non-Microsoft applications, such as the popular open source processing program Open Office Writer.

Apart from DOC and DOCX, reaConverter also supports RTF (Rich Text Format) – a Microsoft Word format whose aim is to retain the format features and content of the original document, irrespective of the application with which the document is opened or edited later on. This helps avoid the slight changes that might appear when using Word 2013 for Windows to open a DOC file created with Word 95, for example.

reaConverter supports conversion from DOC, DOCX and RTF to over 50 formats, including PDF and several popular image formats such as JPG, PNG, BMP, or TIF — as well as other less known or rarely used extensions.

Here is how it works

Download and install reaConverter. Load one or more document files into reaConverter, by using the handy drag-and-drop tool or by selecting them manually from your hard drive.

reaConverter allows you to customize the loading quality by accessing the Menu button, and then Loading settings → Vector formats loading settings. Here you can enter a particular figure to define how the vector image should be resized.

In the Edit images section you can pick one or more editing features that will be included in the conversion process. You can select to rotate, resize, crop or watermark your files, among others.

Finally, go to Saving options and pick the location for your output files. They can be saved online of offline, in a storage cloud or in a local folder of your choice. Last but not least, choose the format of the output files by simply pressing one of the buttons placed in the lower part of the window. PDF is among the options, as well as JPG, PNG, TIF, BMP and lots of others.

Next, press the Start button and your newly converted files will soon be ready!

NVA is a new and popular file format used particularly for storing ebooks and associated with a piece of software called NVA Reader. This program is optimized to work on all types of platforms, including Windows, Mac, Nexus phones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, the Samsung Galaxy series etc.

Some of the main advantages of using NVA files are the possibility to select, highlight and underline text, make notes and add bookmarks. NVA files simulate the appearance of the print book really well and they preserve the structure, format and objects on each page. They also include handy search tools and features that facilitate sharing notes or quotes on social networks.

But if you have just downloaded or received by email an NVA file, you might notice it is not compatible with many other programs apart from NVA Reader. In case you want to convert it to a more accessible format, such as PDF, reaConverter can make this happen in a few seconds and without any quality loss. Additionally, reaConverter supports conversion from NVA to raster image formats, such as JPG, PNG or TIFF.

Here is how.

Download and install reaConverter. Start it and load your NVA files into main window. This powerful batch converter features a useful drag-and-drop tool, as well as the possibility to select files manually or add entire folders.

Go to the Edit images tab in case you want to resize, crop, rotate, watermark or add other editing features to your converted NVA files.

Finally, go to Saving options and choose a location for your newly converted ebook files.

Last but not least, pick the format of the output files. reaConverter supports vector to vector conversion from NVA to PDF, which means your ebook will be converted to a more accessible format and preserve its quality. Alternatively, you can convert NVA files to multipage TIFFs or to other popular raster formats, including JPG and PNG.

Next, simply click Start and your newly converted files will soon be ready!

Most passionate photographers like to carefully control all kinds of details related to their photos — from adjusting colours and lights, to correcting red eyes or cropping. And for this reason, they prefer setting their camera to take pictures in RAW format. Also known as “digital negatives”, RAW image files have the great advantage of allowing a wide array of computer editing options.

If you like to take your quality photos with a Fujifilm camera and have just got the new X-E1 model, for example — you will soon discover your RAW image files have the RAF extension. This is the typical format for all Fujifilm cameras, and while generally preferred by photographers, it might prove difficult to handle at first. Why? Because RAF files are not recognized by many regular photo viewers, so you may have problems opening and editing them. Moreover, they have a very large size (up to 6 times more than a JPEG), so sending or moving a large group of photos might prove to be equally difficult.

There is a quick and easy solution for solving all the problems above, while at the same time being able to edit your RAF images any way you like: use a powerful converter! I personally recommend reaConverter that can be downloaded and tried for free at reaconverter.com. Whether you are a professional photographer or just an amateur learning the tricks of the trade, this software will be everything you need for handling your RAF images, as well as several other RAW formats, such as ORF or ARW (see the full list of RAW formats supported by reaConverter).

Install reaConverter

To give you a glimpse of what this program can do, I have selected my top 5 image editing options that allow me to control how my RAF image will look like before converting it to an accessible format such as JPEG, PNG or TIFF. Here they are below:

Rotate, Crop or Resize photos.

Adjust the RGB, or correct the amount of Red, Green and Blue in the image.

Adjust the HLS balance (Hue / Luminance / Saturation). This allows you to fine-tune the colours in the image, correct their clarity and tones.

Edit the Colour Resolution. You can opt for a smaller or a larger number of colours, depending on the size you want your photo to have.

Apply Watermarking. This will help you make sure the image will not be used by someone else without your permission. The watermark is a text or an image that will appear on all converted photos, with a customizable size, position and transparency.
