<p><strong>AutoCAD</strong> is one of the most popular programs used by architects, engineers and other professionals in the design and construction industries for delivering computer-aided design and drafting. In case you are one of its users, you may have come across <strong>DXF</strong> (Drawing Interchange Format) files &mdash; a format introduced in the 1980s for increasing the interoperability of AutoCAD files. <a href="/convert/dxf.html">DXF</a> files were meant to reproduce <a href="/convert/dwg.html">DWG</a> files and had subsequent releases in the following years.</p>
<p>In case you found or were sent a DXF file but do not have AutoCAD installed and you don’t know how to open it, conversion to <a href="/convert/pdf.html">PDF</a> is the best option. It only takes a few clicks with <a href="https://www.reaconverter.com">reaConverter</a>.</p>
<p><span id="more-1141"></span></p>
<div style="padding-bottom: 48px;">
<a href="https://www.reaconverter.com/"><img decoding="async" style="border: 0; box-shadow: 0 0 0; padding: 24px; padding-left: 70px; padding-bottom: 36px;" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/img/icons/reaconverter64.png" width=64 height=64></a><br />

</div>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">How does it work?</h2>
<p>Load one or more DXF files you intend to convert. Add them manually to the program’s main window or use the handy drag-and-drop tool. </p>
<p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/howto/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/dxf-to-pdf-1.png" alt="" width="786" height="610" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1146" /></p>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">Choose PDF as output format</h2>
<p>Pick the format and location of the output files. Click on the <strong>PDF</strong> button conveniently placed in the lower part of the screen (or, in case you don’t see it there, press the <strong>Plus</strong> button and select it from the available list of formats).</p>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">Saving location</h2>
<p>Next, go to the <strong>Saving options</strong> tab for choosing the location of the PDFs. reaConverter allows you to save both online and offline, in a local folder.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/howto/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/dxf-to-pdf-2.png" alt="" width="786" height="610" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1147" /></p>
<p>After this is done, simply press the <strong>Start</strong> button and your new PDFs will soon be ready.</p>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">PDF security options</h2>
<p>Optionally, you can add security settings to your output PDFs by clicking <strong>Menu &rarr; Saving settings &rarr; Format saving settings</strong> and then clicking on the <strong>PDF</strong> tab.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/howto/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/dxf-to-pdf-3.png" alt="" width="786" height="610" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1148" /></p>
<p>Here you can insert a <strong>password</strong> for opening the output document, as well as one for granting permission to copy, edit or print it.</p>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">Automation</h2>
<p>In the <strong>Menu</strong> tab you can also opt for configuring the <a href="/features/watch-folders.html">Watch Folders</a> features, allowing you to automatically convert all DXF files placed in a specific folder to PDFs, thus avoiding repetitive operations.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/img/f-folders.png" style="border: 0; box-shadow: 0 0 0;margin-left: 32px;padding-top: 18px;padding-bottom: 16px;"></p>
<p>In case you are a developer, you can also include the secure <strong>DXF to PDF conversion</strong> process in your own customized software solution by using accessing reaConverter’s <a href="/features/command-line.html">command-line feature</a>.</p>
<div style="margin-bottom: 48px;margin-top:42px;"><a style="color: #3b3b3b;background-image: url(data:image/png;base64,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);  background-position: 16px 11px;  background-repeat: no-repeat;  background-color: #b4da21;  padding: 10px 16px 8px 56px;  font-size: 16px;  width: 231px;  height: 40px;text-decoration: none;" type="button" href="/download/reaConverterStandard-Setup.exe">Try reaConverter</a></div>

<p>If you are an architect or an engineer, you probably use AutoCAD a lot. This popular computer-aided design (CAD) software is also used by project managers, designers and several other professionals involved in designing and constructing buildings.</p>
<p>Since its initial release in 1982, AutoCAD has launched a large number of subsequent upgraded versions throughout the years. Because of this, you may have encountered the situation where a <a href="/convert/dwg.html">DWG</a> or <a href="/convert/dxf.html">DXF</a> file &mdash; two of the extensions commonly used in association with AutoCAD &mdash; created with an older version of AutoCAD are not compatible with the current version you are using.</p>
<p><span id="more-1094"></span></p>
<p>Converting DWG and DXF images from a particular AutoCAD version to a required one (newer or an older) is now possible with no more than a few clicks using reaConverter’s latest edition. </p>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">Download reaConverter</h2>
<p>Download and install reaConverter from <a href="https://www.reaconverter.com/">reaconverter.com</a> and then follow the simple steps of the conversion process.</p>
<div style="padding-bottom: 48px;">
<a href="https://www.reaconverter.com/"><img decoding="async" style="border: 0; box-shadow: 0 0 0; padding: 24px; padding-left: 70px; padding-bottom: 36px;" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/img/icons/reaconverter64.png" width=64 height=64></a><br />
<a style="color: #3b3b3b;background-image: url(data:image/png;base64,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);  background-position: 16px 11px;  background-repeat: no-repeat;  background-color: #b4da21;  padding: 10px 18px 8px 56px;  font-size: 16px;  width: 231px;  height: 40px;text-decoration: none;" type="button" href="/download/reaConverterStandard-Setup.exe">Install reaConverter</a>
</div>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">Load your AutoCAD files</h2>
<p>Add one or more DWG or DXF files you intend to convert. Load them manually or use the drag-and-drop tool. </p>
<p><img decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/features/screens/choose-autocad-version-1.png"></p>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">Choose AutoCAD version</h2>
<p>Pick the preferred format for your output files from the buttons placed in the lower part of the screen. In case <strong>DWG</strong> and <strong>DXF</strong> are not there, click the <strong>Plus</strong> button and you will find the full list of supported output formats. Then click the Settings icon from the upper left corner of the selected button and pick the preferred AutoCAD version from the list that appears in the new window.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/features/screens/choose-autocad-version-3.png"></p>
<p>You can reach the same window by following this path: <strong>Menu &rarr; Saving Settings &rarr; Format Saving Settings</strong></p>
<p><img decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/features/screens/choose-autocad-version-2.png"></p>
<p>For example, if you want to convert a DWG created with AutoCAD 2004-2006 to Autocad 2010-2012, you will have the same input and output file format, and pick the last option from the list that appears in this window. Alternatively, if you want to convert a DWG to a DXF file, you will use a different input and output format, as shown in the video tutorial below.</p>
<h2 style="font-weight: normal;">Save the result</h2>
<p>Finally, pick the location of the output files by selecting the <strong>Saving Options</strong> tab. You can save them locally, in an existing or a new folder, or to your cloud storage account.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" src="https://www.reaconverter.com/features/screens/choose-autocad-version-4.png"></p>
<p>Next, simply press <strong>Start</strong> and you are done! </p>
<div style="margin-bottom: 48px;margin-top:42px;"><a style="color: #3b3b3b;background-image: url(data:image/png;base64,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);  background-position: 16px 11px;  background-repeat: no-repeat;  background-color: #b4da21;  padding: 10px 16px 8px 56px;  font-size: 16px;  width: 231px;  height: 40px;text-decoration: none;" type="button" href="/download/reaConverterStandard-Setup.exe">Try reaConverter</a></div>
